5/28/2023 0 Comments How to delid a cpu for mac pro![]() In conclusion, I think delidding was a good idea, but using a razor was a terrible idea. I ran Cinebench again, at 4.8GHz and this time the max temperature was only 70☌ instead of 90☌. Hoping for the best, I removed one of my two sticks of RAM and. ![]() But some of my RAM slots in the motherboard would no longer work. That was that, I had broken my CPU.īut I didn't give up, I read a few threads and apparently, it's possible that what I had done was damage the "memory controller" (whatever that is) and that I might still be able to use the PC. I cleaned and applied the new thermal compound, and put everything back into place.įinally I turned on the computer. I hoped for the best, perhaps this was only cosmetic damage. ![]() ![]() It took me a long time (15-20mins), but eventually I managed to pry off the metal lid and expose the CPU die this is when I noticed I had slightly scratched the green PCB and exposed some copper colored metal. Unfortunately I didn't buy any 3D-printed delidding tools, and instead opted to use a razor blade. For me this was too much, so I decided it was finally time to delid. Before delidding I ran Cinebench several times and the average max temperature was 90☌. I'm using a i7-7700K which I'm overclocking to 4.8GHz. I've seen it done on YouTube a lot of people report significantly lower temperatures when they replace the default thermal compound with more effective thermal compound (such as Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra). I've been wanting to delid my CPU for quite some time.
